Why it matters here

Pinellas runs on seawalls

Salt water, aging steel and the 2024 storms all work on the same walls. The numbers show how much is at stake.

Permits

One county office for every seawall

Pinellas County's Water and Navigation section permits seawalls, docks, riprap and dredge-and-fill projects in every city and in the unincorporated county. Cities still handle their own building permits, and some add a step: Clearwater asks for city pre-approval first, and South Pasadena sent a 2026 height-increase replacement to a public hearing.

Your contractor should confirm in writing which approvals your address needs and who files them.

Costs

What seawall work costs

Repairs and replacements are priced very differently. Published 2026 figures put general repair at about $100 to $250 per linear foot, while Florida replacement estimates run about $500 to $1,200 per foot. That gap is why catching a leaking joint early matters.

Reference figures, not quotes. Angi, seawall repair cost (2026 data): about $100–$250 per linear foot for repairs. LatestCost, Florida seawall replacement (2026): about $500–$1,200 per linear foot. HomeAdvisor, sea wall cost: average $25,000, typical $15,000–$60,000. Checked October 2026.
