Getting to know Treasure Island
Treasure Island's name is said to come from a 1915 sales stunt: property owners buried wooden chests on the beach and then 'discovered' them to boost lot sales. The 1848 Great Gale carved John's Pass at the north end and split off the Isle of Palms and Isle of Capri. The city incorporated in May 1955 and had about 6,600 residents in 2020.
Homes and hotels went up from the end of World War II through the 1950s, often on land made from dredged fill and laid out for access to Boca Ciega Bay. The result is the network of finger isles and canals on the city's bay side.
The shoreline in Treasure Island
Because so much of the residential land was created in the same postwar decade, many canal walls here are of a similar age and construction. When one fails, the walls on either side are often near the end of their lives too.

Free EstimateWhat Treasure Island owners ask about most
- Seawall Replacement
Isle of Palms and Isle of Capri lots have walls from the same postwar build-out, and many are reaching replacement age.
- Seawall Height Raise
Low finger-isle streets flooded in 2024, and owners rebuilding are asking about height.
- Seawall Crack & Joint Repair
Dredged fill behind older walls washes out through open joints.
Talk to your neighbors before you build
On the finger isles, your wall ties into the walls on both sides. If neighbors are planning replacements too, coordinating can simplify the transitions and may reduce mobilization costs.
